Get Relief From Hypothyroidism in Franklin, Tennessee

gff We have many patients who come to our office every week seeking help. Some of you have been diagnosed with a  thyroid problem, put on medication yet continue to suffer with thyroid symptoms. Others know that you have all of the  symptoms that add up to a thyroid problem yet when your doctor checks your thyroid levels, everything looks normal.

Do you feel like something is being missed when it comes to your thyroid?

Do you still want help with your symptoms even though your thyroid levels are normal?

Do you feel like you’ve been everywhere and tried everything and still
have no answers?

Do you feel like you’re not being heard when it comes to your symptoms?

Do you feel like others think your symptoms aren’t important or that you may be exaggerating your symptoms?

Do others make you feel that your problems are in your head?

What are some typical thyroid symptoms?

  •  fatigue
  •  weight gain
  •  difficulty falling or staying asleep
  •  depression
  •  irritable/moody
  •  anxiety
  •  hair loss
  •  dry skin
  •  lack of mental clarity or focus
  •  decreased libido

Many of you can feel helpless because you don’t have answers as to why you continue to feel worse over time. Even more frustrating, many of you are being treated at a symptom level, e.g. given a medication for sleep, depression, anxiety, pain or weight loss which doesn’t provide you with the lasting help or the answers that you are seeking. Some patients have told me that their doctor suggested that the problem was in their head. We want you to know that your symptoms are real and there are always reasons why you are feeling the way that you do. If those reasons haven’t been found, maybe whoever is looking isn’t looking in all of the right places.

Where do we look?

There are many tests available to determine how well your thyroid is functioning. Traditionally the test that is run at most doctor’s offices is TSH. TSH is a hormone that is sent from the brain that tells the thyroid to do its job. If TSH is abnormal the person is given medication like synthroid to replace what the thyroid is no longer producing in an effort to return TSH to normal levels. The tests we run can determine why the thyroid started functioning abnormally to begin with. These tests can be positive for years before a TSH will read abnormal. Our patients don’t have to wait for an abnormal TSH to start getting relief from their symptoms.

Can we help you?

Not everyone is a good candidate for our care. If we determine you may be a good fit, a simple inexpensive test tells us whether or not you are a person that we can help. This is a test that is almost never run by most doctors because it doesn’t change the way that they manage your case. The standard of care for thyroid patients is to adjust medications according to TSH levels and follow up in 3-6 months. If TSH levels are normal, typically no changes are made elsewhere.

How do we help you?
Once we have determined that you are a patient that we can help we need to find all of the underlying reasons and contributing factors driving your condition to create your symptoms. We do this through specialized testing with a comprehensive approach. We need to know all of the reasons that put a patient in front of us. Even if you have the same symptoms that our other patients do, you have a unique combination of causes that drive your symptoms. Each person in our office has a customized care plan tailored to meet their unique needs beginning the process of eliminating symptoms and getting their life back.

Possible driving factors that we test for once we accept a patient into care:

  • What healthy foods may you be eating that your body is sensitive to? Most of our patients have several foods that they used to eat regularly that caused inflammation and made their thyroid symptoms worse. Specific testing determines the offending foods.

  • Adrenal glands secrete a hormone called cortisol…which is blamed for that weight gain around the middle; adrenal glands also affect mood, memory and mental clarity. Our patients do an all-day long test of their adrenal function.

  • Blood sugars can be a factor for many of our patients, (low or high).

  • Over half of the patients under our care have infections that they didn’t know they had, things like parasites, yeast, fungus or bacteria in their digestive tract. We have a very specific test for this.

  • Hormonal fluctuations can be making your symptoms worse
    Liver function

This is only some of what we look for but the bottom line is that there are many things creating your symptoms. Symptom relief comes from finding and eliminating or handling all of the causes.

What if I no longer have a thyroid, have a partial thyroid, nodules, a goiter or Hashimotos?

We have helped and are currently helping other patients with all of these conditions and it is likely that we can help you as well.

I already eat healthy or I’ve done hormone replacement, why don’t I feel any better?

The simple fact is that if there are 5 or 6 driving factors making your thyroid symptoms worse, fixing or balancing only one of these may not have any effect on the way that you feel. A note on hormones; if you truly do have a hormone imbalance in our office we want to know why and again go after the cause of that rather than treating the imbalance with an external source of hormones that you have to take indefinitely.

In short there is no quick fix or easy pill if you have the thyroid condition that we treat. If you are a person who wants help however, we are an office that is already helping patients just like you and it is our goal to help you gain better understanding and knowledge of your body so that your symptoms aren’t controlling your life.
