We have many patients who come to our office every week seeking help. Some of you have been diagnosed with a thyroid problem, put on medication yet continue to suffer with thyroid symptoms. Others know that you have all of the symptoms that add up to a thyroid problem yet when your doctor checks your thyroid levels, everything looks normal.
Do you feel like something is being missed when it comes to your thyroid?
Do you still want help with your symptoms even though your thyroid levels are normal?
Do you feel like you’ve been everywhere and tried everything and still
have no answers?
Do you feel like you’re not being heard when it comes to your symptoms?
Do you feel like others think your symptoms aren’t important or that you may be exaggerating your symptoms?
Many of you can feel helpless because you don’t have answers as to why you continue to feel worse over time. Even more frustrating, many of you are being treated at a symptom level, e.g. given a medication for sleep, depression, anxiety, pain or weight loss which doesn’t provide you with the lasting help or the answers that you are seeking. Some patients have told me that their doctor suggested that the problem was in their head. We want you to know that your symptoms are real and there are always reasons why you are feeling the way that you do. If those reasons haven’t been found, maybe whoever is looking isn’t looking in all of the right places.
There are many tests available to determine how well your thyroid is functioning. Traditionally the test that is run at most doctor’s offices is TSH. TSH is a hormone that is sent from the brain that tells the thyroid to do its job. If TSH is abnormal the person is given medication like synthroid to replace what the thyroid is no longer producing in an effort to return TSH to normal levels. The tests we run can determine why the thyroid started functioning abnormally to begin with. These tests can be positive for years before a TSH will read abnormal. Our patients don’t have to wait for an abnormal TSH to start getting relief from their symptoms.
Not everyone is a good candidate for our care. If we determine you may be a good fit, a simple inexpensive test tells us whether or not you are a person that we can help. This is a test that is almost never run by most doctors because it doesn’t change the way that they manage your case. The standard of care for thyroid patients is to adjust medications according to TSH levels and follow up in 3-6 months. If TSH levels are normal, typically no changes are made elsewhere.
This is only some of what we look for but the bottom line is that there are many things creating your symptoms. Symptom relief comes from finding and eliminating or handling all of the causes.
We have helped and are currently helping other patients with all of these conditions and it is likely that we can help you as well.
The simple fact is that if there are 5 or 6 driving factors making your thyroid symptoms worse, fixing or balancing only one of these may not have any effect on the way that you feel. A note on hormones; if you truly do have a hormone imbalance in our office we want to know why and again go after the cause of that rather than treating the imbalance with an external source of hormones that you have to take indefinitely.
In short there is no quick fix or easy pill if you have the thyroid condition that we treat. If you are a person who wants help however, we are an office that is already helping patients just like you and it is our goal to help you gain better understanding and knowledge of your body so that your symptoms aren’t controlling your life.

“I’m so so so thankful to have my life back! I am no longer afraid to leave my home, to be alone with my son, or to drive. To have a doctor like Dr. Kenyon that understands and helps you understand a very misunderstood disease is such a Godsend. Thousands spent in surgeries, CT scans, MRIs and nobody could help me until I came to IMS. Now my energy is back and I’ve lost weight and feel great. The anxiety and fear are gone and I now feel in control of my life. I have the light back in my eyes for sure. No regrets-Best decision I’ve made for my health!” Jennifer J
